Background…We are debt free. I am on teacher retirement of 14.5% in a pension. I recently decided I want to do a Roth IRA to increase my contributions to 15% of my salary so I opened up a vanguard account. I am going to do a target date index fund, but need to get to my $1000 first. I plan on contributing $250/month to that. My husband has a financial adviser he doesn’t want to break up with (lol) so he’s investing 15% into his retirement as well. We have 529s set up for our two kids, ages 8 and 10, putting in $100/month for each.
My question is, I want to do some additional investing for our kids with money that may come their way. What are the best options for investing in the custodial brokerage? Shares of VTI, VOO, or should I just put it into their 529s? Right now they each have about $500 in a bank savings account.
Thanks!
