Do I have to pull out of my target date index fund when I reach the date I selected or can I continue to leave it in the fund?

I’ve invested in the Charles shwab S&P 500 2050 target date index fund. When 2050 comes around do I have to pull out or will my investment continue to grow if I leave it in the fund? Thank you

You can continue to leave it! In fact, they continue to shift the asset allocation after the target date. i.e. a 65 year old at traditional retirement age will have a more aggressive portfolio (looking at a 30 year+ investing time frame) compared to an 80 year old who is likely only concerned about capital preservation.
