Fidelity Target Date Funds

Is there a difference in Fidelity’s FDKLX and FFLEX index target date funds? The expense ratio is lower on the FFLEX at 0.08 vs. FDKLX at 0.12, unless I’m missing something? Wouldn’t the FFLEX be the better option, given the lower expense ratio?

Hi Brittany. It looks like the FFLEX is “institutional premium class” with a minimum investment of 5 million. The FDKLX is “investor class” with a minimum investment of $0. I found this by searching the ticker symbols and looking at the fidelity website description. At least FDKLX still has a great expense ratio! Happy investing to you.

Well that is a big difference haha! FFLEX is obviously out of me. Thanks for your response!

So I did a little more digging on Fidelity’s website regarding an HSA. They have a list of funds if used for HSA investing where they waive the investment minimums and transaction fees and FFLEX was on that list. Hopefully I’m reading that right as that may be of interest to someone if looking to apply in a HSA.

Yeah, @ashfrica is exactly right on this! Those institutional funds are generally offered if you work for a big company who negotiated a better rate for their employees or something. It sounds like Fidelity is extending that to their HSA customers too. That sounds like exactly what I would pick for my Fidelity HSA!
