Multiple Accounts for VTTSX

Hi I just started learning about investing/retirement and I would like some advice/help. I started a new job months ago and for my 410k I chose a target date index fund with Vanguard (VTTSX). Thanks to Jeremy!

However, I want to contribute more on a target date index fund. Should I open a Roth IRA with Vanguard and invest on VTTSX and then a brokerage account? Will it combine with my existing investment with my 410k? Is this a good idea?

Also when is the last date to max out Roth IRA’s?

You can max out a Roth IRA (if you’re within the income limits) by the tax deadline date.

You can open both a Roth IRA and brokerage account at Vanguard (again for Roth there are restrictions) but you cannot combine these types of accounts because of their tax implications.

However if you open both the Roth and brokerage at Vanguard you can see them all under one interface (and this simplifies things) but your 401(k) will be through your employer and is probably not through Vanguard but another company, even though they have Vanguard funds. Most 401(k)s have different funds from different companies.
