Roth IRA contribution

Hi, this may have been asked before, if we are married and filing jointly can my husband and I both have our own individual Roth IRA account and each contribute 6K, so basically 12k total yearly. We both work and make under the allotted amount per year. I’m confused because I always read the limit for married filing jointly being 6K as the limit to contribute but is that for each person or 6K jointly? Thank you in advance!

It’s per person. You can definitely still contribute $6K each for a total of $12K for the team. (But IRAs are always linked to an individual, so the limit is always $6K per person/account which is probably why you don’t see the number $12K quoted many places)
