Russ 1000 vs S&P 500 ETFs

Hey,

Would love your feedback on the following: I’m interested in long term investing within a ROTH IRA.

I’m debating between investing in the Russ 1000 or the S&P 500. The two ETFs I’m specifically looking at are IWB and VOO. Out of the two, which do you like more for long term growth?

Thanks in advance.

Take a look at the post on the best index fund:

IWB isn’t specifically listed there, but if it were it would be the same as shown here:

VOO happens to have an EVER SO SLIGHT outperformance the last few years, but that’s just because big companies have done really well lately, but there’s no reason to expect that trend to continue.

So all things equal, I would always choose the broadest index fund available. Since the Russell 1000 is broader (more companies) than the S&P 500, I’d go with that one. Although, I’d prefer a total market index fund like VTI or ITOT over either of those.
