My wife’s grandparents put money in a fund for her a long time ago and its since transferred to Invesco’s - ODMAX (developing markets fund). Since it’s basically “free money” to us we have just left it there, but over the past year its down 31%. This has made us wonder if we are better off selling it now, paying the taxes and putting it into a better performing fund like VTI (either our brokerage account or maxing out her ROTH IRA). We’re talking a small amount of money ~$4k so it won’t be a big tax burden. We’re leaning toward keeping it simple by having most of our funds in one brokerage unless developing market funds are expected to do really well moving forward… I know no one knows for sure, but any advice/suggestions would be appreciated!! Thank you!
Hi Dustin,
How nice of her grandparents!! I can’t tell you when would be a good time to do this, but I do agree with getting rid of it, especially with the high expense ratio of 1.2%.

Thanks @vivitron !! I agree not sure when a good time would be to sell it. I think we’ll just sell it and move on instead of trying to pick the perfect time.
