Target date fund vs target index funds

my workplace offers vanguard target date funds with expense ratio 0.05%. after reading pfc posts, I’m clueless whether it is an index fund or not. there is no ticker symbol unfortunately.

also, do prices of target date index funds matter?
for example vanguard 2050 date fund is $51.43 vs 2065 is $31.13

It is indeed an index fund. Vanguard happens to ONLY offer target date index funds. Plus anything with an expense ratio under 0.2% is almost certainly an index fund.

The price is meaningless, except for tracking how it does compared to itself. Just ignore the share price.

If I worked where you worked, I’d be dumping 100% of my contribution into that vanguard 2050 fund! (Or whatever your birth year plus 65/70 is)
