I know you have given advice on vanguard, thank so much. It’s so helpful. I have started my vanguard acct and ready to invest. Is it better to invest with vanguard mutual funds or trade eft’s or stock? Help!!!
Hey Jvirgo2007!
Wise, disciplined, informed investors who aren’t trying to sell you something will almost always tell you to “buy and hold index funds”. That’s generally the optimal way to invest. Any sort of stock picking or jumping in and out of the market is more likely to hurt you than help you.
That said, if I were you, I’d consider dumping all of your investments in a single target date index fund. That’s a convenient set of index funds designed specifically based on your age, and automatically provide really nice diversification and rebalancing! Here’s a more in depth overview on them as well as Vanguard ticker symbols at the bottom of the article!
Hi Jvirgo2007,
I am exercising Jeremy’s Financial Steps. I am focusing on the Vanguard 2055 Retirement Date fund (VFFVX). I am one of those people that hates investing blindly into things until I know whats in it. My advice would be to look at your target retirement date and look into a vanguard fund. A retirement fund is usually compromised of US Stocks, International Stocks, US Bonds, and International Bonds. Depending on your age and risk preference you will want to adjust bonds and stocks.
Here are the ETFs that are make up the target date funds:
VTI - total US market index fund

VXUS - total international market index fund

BND - total US bonds
https://investor.vanguard.com/etf/profile/BND
BNDX - total international bonds

the 2055 retirement fund is made up of:
Total Stock Market Index Fund (54.20%)
Total International Stock Index Fund (36.20%)
Total Bond Market II Index Fund (6.80%)
Total International Bond Index Fund (2.80%)

Hope it helps!
Thank you so much, hard trying to figure it all out.
Gosh, I will definitely take that advice! Thanks
